For admirers of old Canadian canoes, we now offer an illustrated essay on Walter Dean and his life on the Toronto waterfront from 1883 to 1918. This is an effort to go beyond the simple catalog reprint to inform and entertain those interested in the old days of canoe building. Our new offering on Walter Dean consists of a 12-page essay simply sent loose to you in a brown paper envelope. This is an effort to keep “packaging” to a minimum while providing an informative life-story accompanied by 26 illustrations (10 of them in colour). The visual part of the essay includes photos of Walter Dean and his family, the canoe-building premises over the years, 4 pages from Walter Dean’s catalogues of 1898 and 1918, the 1910 design-concept drawings for the celebrated Sunnyside Cruiser canoe, and bits of promotion and advertising.

The photo-essay has one catch we can think of - its costs money. So does a decent bottle of wine. Not the same thing, of course, but we think our Walter Dean photo-essay will last longer.
